Greene County High School junior David Petersen has been selected to perform at the prestigious All-State Speech Festival for individual events Monday, March 30, on the University of Northern Iowa campus. Petersen received “I” ratings in solo musical and in poetry at the state speech contest held March 14 at Nevada. His All-State selection is solo musical.
At the state contest, each event is evaluated by three judges, with their scores combined for an overall rating. The Greene County speech team received eight “I” ratings and 11 “II” ratings.
Students receiving “I” ratings, in addition to Petersen, were Hannah Onken in radio news and prose, Jack Schilling and Regan Lamoureux in prose, Victoria Sims in solo musical, and Lakota Larson in expository address.
Students receiving “II” ratings were Jack Schilling and Regan Lamoureux in poetry, Lakota Larson in original oratory, Jamie Theulen in expository address, Cole DeHoet and Aly Matthews in after dinner speaking, Jordan King in improvisation and original oratory, Emily Heupel in public address, Danielle Johnson in solo musical, and Victoria Sims in acting.
The contest is held under the auspices of the Iowa High School Speech Association. The Greene County High School team is coached by Glenna Strong.
